Sydney Steamer
Sydney Steamer
Long before wheels, extendable handles and zips were added to luggage our personal effects were transported long distance in steamer trunks. Affectionately nicknamed after the coal powered steam ships of the day they were handmade, stylish and functional. All the way from the University of Sydney to the United Kingdom Mrs J.Wittrick’s belongings made their final perilous journey aboard a Blue Funnel steam ship in this wooden guardian of all things personal. Now this retired sailor will spend his days recounting sea stories of old and listening to some new ones over a cuppa in the warmth and safety of your home.

The Ebenezer
The Ebenezer
What has the DH 98 Mosquito aeroplane and this chair have in common? Ebenezer Gomme made them both. During both WW1 and WW2 his furniture factories and workforce were utilised for the war effort to construct the aircraft. AMAZING!!
23 years after his death his legacy was still going strong. The 1950’s saw a rebranding of the company to G-plan. Derived from Gomme plan, a plan for living.
This rock solid light oak G-plan frame has been Re-upholstered in coloured fabrics to suit the companies 1950’s rebranding with coloured buttons for that Junk Gypsies signature of course! We hope who ever comes to own this remarkable piece of British history takes the time to recount the story of Ebenezer and his workforce to friends, family and children before bed time seated in his very creation.
The Ebenezer is currently being exhibited at The Croft Wingates Art Gallery in Market Harborough. Please contact us for availability before purchasing to avoid disappointment.

The Grease Monkey
The Grease Monkey
The grease monkey’s past incarnation was a vice bench in a mechanics workshop. Oil, metal shavings, paint and grime coated the entire work top and frame. We regret to tell you that even the skilled hands of our restoration team could not save the worktop. However as a wise old man of the woods once said ” sometimes you need to cut away a part of yourself so the other parts can grow ” and it is with that spirit in mind we rebuilt the work top and added the basket shelf using the slats from a reclaimed pine bed. Custom built a chunky chopping board added vegetable basket and casters then finished off with a pair of cast iron window handles to hang the tea towels. The grease monkey kitchen island is yet another zero carbon foot print reclamation brought to you by Junk Gypsies.
